A Tudor castle is calling on history enthusiasts to join its popular volunteer programme as it prepares to open its doors for the 2018 season.

Sudeley Castle & Gardens in Winchcombe is asking local people to offer at least one day a week of their time throughout the season, which runs from Monday 5 March – Friday 21 December.

In return they can expect to receive a Family Season Pass, travel expenses, discount in the Terrace Restaurant and full training.

No experience is necessary, though locals with an interest in the castle who are keen to enhance the visitor experience are encouraged to apply.

Successful applicants can expect their duties to include: welcoming visitors, supporting guides in exhibition rooms, or helping to maintain the beautiful gardens.

Lady Ashcombe, who owns and lives at Sudeley Castle & Gardens, said: “Each season I am delighted to be able open my beautiful home to the public, however with over 1,000 years of history to preserve, Sudeley requires a lot of love and attention – which is why we value our wonderful volunteers so much.
“Our dedicated team is vital in keeping the legacy of the castle alive so that everyone is able to enjoy the rich history of our rooms, and the splendour of the gardens, year after year.
“The Sudeley volunteer programme is also a great way for likeminded individuals to enrich their own lives, spending time in the most beautiful setting and walking in the footsteps of the many monarchs with whom Sudeley is associated. We look forward to welcoming new volunteers for what is set to be our best season yet.”
